The Rail Bender Red Ale was the first beer to ever flow out of the IRBC Brewhouse. As this beer includes no adjuncts, it was selected to provide an estimate of our systems’ brewhouse efficiency. And it was love at first sight.

An amber ale full of toffee and caramel flavours, making it a solid choice for those malt-forward beer lovers. Life in Labrador is full of twists and turns. We think one of these can help to straighten some things back out. If you are in search of a brew which showcases malt flavours over piney hops, this is the beer for you! While it is still brewed with EK Goulding hops, the hop addition is calculated to provide a subtle bitterness to balance the sweetness of the malt/sugar. True to the American Amber style.

"The first beer brewed by IRBC. It’s been a winding road since then, but we’re glad it brought us here."
THE STYLE
Red Ales (also known as Amber Ales) are characterized by its malt profile, typically including a caramel or toffee-like sweetness. Usually brewed with a dry finish. It begins with a pale ale base and adds kilned malts and roasted barley to impart its red hue. Similar to a Pale Ale without the characteristic straw shade.

THE HISTORY

American Red Ale originated in America, as the name suggests. Brewers in California and the Pacific Northwest of America are believed to be the first to have brewed this American Amber style in the 1980s. Similar to some European styles with North American ingredients, Its ancestor is the English Pale Ale and Strong Bitter.
