Named in recognition of the German research icebreaker used to headquarter the MOSAiC Arctic Expedition. This golden IPA is loaded with citrus and tropical fruit aroma which Mosaic hops are well-known for.
At Iron Rock, we love simplicity. With the original intent to brew a SMaSH beer (single malt and single hop), this brew developed into the Polarstern we know and love today. With patrons wanting to learn more about the ingredients that make up the beers they love, we developed this beer to feature only mosaic hops.

“A crystal clear IPA, that will leave you wanting more!”
THE STYLE
American IPA’s are generally more hoppy than English IPA’s, with complementary floral and fruity notes (common for citrus flavours/aromas). IPA’s usually celebrate the hops added to them and focus on them over malt flavours. Generally, IPA’s will have a higher ABV than a Pale Ale or other common styles of beer.
THE HISTORY
India Pale Ale became a well-known style in England by 1815 and was a popular beer to export to India. It is rumoured, that was due to the fact IPA’s were able to survive long voyages on the sea compared to other styles. IPA’s fell out of popularity eventually, until the 20th century when American brewers started brewing older styles of beer again. The IPA was well suited for the intense flavours and aromas of American Hops and once again gained popularity Worldwide
