Oak-Aged Belgian Tripel
Le Fer Du Monde 2022
Creator, Dave Hurley

Our second cellar series release, Le Fer Du Monde 2022. This oak-aged Belgian Tripel is a rich and complex offering. The golden hue and effervescent carbonation lead to a bouquet of fruit and spice. On the palate are rich notes of dark fruit, vanilla, and a touch of oak, balanced by subtle alcohol warmth. The finish is long and smooth, with a harmonious blend of sweetness and firm bitterness. Enjoyable, ideally with an abettor, fresh or aged upwards of 24-36 months to allow flavours to develop and mature. Optimal aging will vary based on personal preference.

THE STYLE
The Belgian Tripel is classified as a “Trappist Ale”. Usually with a pale yellowish gold to dark copper colour. Alcohol content is generally between 8%-10%. For a high alcohol content beer, it is surprisingly light and refreshing to drink. Normally high in peppery and clove like aromas, accompanied with hints of fruitiness (usually citrus and banana hints are noticeable). There is a complex taste of spiciness, fruitiness, bitterness, and alcohol flavours. Usually, this style is bottle conditioned and has a dry finish.
THE HISTORY
The Belgian Tripel is a relatively new style of beer. It was born less than 85 years ago, in the 1930s by Belgian brewer Hendrik Verlinden. He began working on a beer recipe for a strong golden ale, after working alongside Trappist monks observing and learning their brewing styles. In 1932 it was released under the name Witkap Pater. It wasn’t until 1956 that the name was changed to Witkap Tripel, and other breweries started using the style name Tripel as well. The Belgian Tripel has grown in popularity over the last few years due an increase of breweries experimenting with Belgian styles of beer.
